Julie Foai, manager of internationally acclaimed South Pacific band, Te Vaka, has her own new album, The Trial and Tribulations of Miss French Part Two, a follow-up to Part One in 2016, and we had the good fortune to be chatting with her from Sydney to hear some of her journey in music and entertainment.
Julie Foai has toured 40 countries over the past two decades, taking Pacific music to the world, and after seeing Te Vaka signed to Walt Disney Pictures for the animated musical feature film, Moana, Miss French realised her vision for Te Vaka was achieved (for now).
After eight years, and many adventures, Miss French was very excited to launch The Trials and Tribulations of Miss French Part Two on May 24. Both Parts One and Two are produced by internationally acclaimed songwriter, her husband, Opetaia Foai, who’s signed to Walt Disney Pictures and working alongside Mark Mancina on Moana 2, due to be out in November.
Te Vaka is a contemporary Polynesian band renowned for its distinct original sound, and its devotion to the South Pacific and its ancestral stories.
Ambassadors for the South Pacific, the band, led by Opetaia, has performed at the Beijing and London Olympics, the Rugby World Cup in Paris, and Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. In 2017, after the success of the first Moana film, Walt Disney Records released Te Vaka’s Greatest Hits – Songs that Inspired Moana.
