Long-time favourites of She’ll Be Right – Hobnail – the alt-country music masters of Wellington and beyond were feature artists on, er, the She’ll be Right on Saturdays Show with PJ Taylor, on July 5, 2025.
Hobnail’s got a new album, as vocalist, guitarist and leader Rob Joass explains: “The album is officially released on Friday July 4. It’s on bandcamp if you’d like to have a listen.”

PJ’s feeling a little responsible.
“I think you suggested an album of covers some time ago. Well here it is!” Rob confirms, to my amazement and appreciation.
“We’re touring just about everywhere except Auckland during July/August, and I’m planning to sort out something in Auckland a bit later in the year.”
The tour poster is here, and we spoke live to Rob as they journeyed from Picton to North Canterbury to gig two.
Had a couple of listens through and some of the songs are unknown to me, they’re a broad selection with a substantial Aussie-Kiwi mix, and the fresh difference with this Hobnail album is it’s a core three-piece – Rob with Hamish Graham on guitars and vocals, and Jo Moir on violin and vocals.
As Hobnail always do, they put their own strong, sincere interpretation on an already great song and paint it another musical landscape. This podcast includes the chat with Rob and playing Three Part through in entirety.
